  A model of intra-urban land-use distributions developed by Harris and Ullman (1945; see Harris, 1997a, 1997b), which combines the features of the earlier zonal and sectoral models and shows urban residential districts organized around several nodes and not just the one central business district (see figure). (RJJ)

multiple nuclei model Generalization of the internal structure of cities. The concentric-zone theory is a generalization for all cities. The arrangement of the sectors in the sector theory varies from city to city. The diagram for multiple nuclei represents one possible pattern among innumerable variations (Harris and Ullman, 1959)
